In a nutshell Agnes is a character foil to Dora. Dora is ignorant and Agnes is wise, Dora is dramatic where Agnes is calm, Dora is funny where Agnes is serious. Dora emulates Agnes and hopes to be like Agnes. If she can't Dora is content to let Agnes shine, often at her expense.
