    What statement of Annie Strong's makes an impression on David? Why do you think it is so memorable to him?

    In her lengthy speech on her love for her husband, Annie Strong remarks that "There can be no disparity in marriage like unsuitability of mind and purpose." In other words, Annie thinks that extreme differences in a couple's minds and goals will lead to division. As long a couple is united in mind and purpose, however, they cannot be separated by more trivial things, like an age gap.
