Daphnis and Chloe Summary

Daphnis and Chloe Summary

When Daphnis and Chloe are abandoned as infants, they are found by two herders, one named Lamon who raises Daphnis, and one named Dryas who discovers Chloe and raises her. So Daphnis and Chloe were found and raised as friends in the same community. Not strangely, they fall in love, but because of their youthful innocence, they don't know what to do until Philetas, a wise old man, educates them about the art of kissing, and teaches them about romantic feelings.

Then, they learn an even more impressive skill when Lycaenion tells Daphnis about sex. He decides not to try this new skill out, however, because he's worried about getting caught, citing the blood and her voice as potential liabilities.

Then, they each go on a terrible adventure, full of threats and temptations, especially the temptation to settle on a life without the other. In the end though, with some help from the god Pan, the two are reunited by their parents, and become married, and the two live happily ever after.
