Civil Peace is, in fact, a depiction of the Nigerian Civil War. At this time, Nigeria was was a hub of conflict and fighting. Ethnic conflict and starvation permeated the country, and during the three year Civil war an estimated one million civilians died from violence and severe malnutrition. Civil Peace is, however, also the story of one man and his family. Thus, we primarily learn about the war through the experiences of Jonathan Iwegbu and his family.
