What is Thoreau's main objection to the U.S government as it existed in this time?

His objection was that government had no right to be in the business of other people. He did not want to be a part of war he didn't believe in (the Mexican War) or pay taxes for other people. He felt the government was a huge unthinking machine without liberty or honour.
