2) Who is Esther? What do we know about her?

3) How is the issue "AIDS" handled in the community? How are people with Aids treated?

4) When Auntie Lizbeth leaves for Tiro after Sarah's funeral she shames Chanda's mother by saying "As you sow, so you reap!" What does she mean with that?

Part 2

5) Describe Mrs. Tafa!

6) What is Chanda's fight with Esther about?

7) What does Chanda find out about Dr. Chilume? Why doesn't she tell her mom?

8) What is the truth about Esther?

9) What happens after the "spirit doctor" visits the family?

Part 3

10) Describe Cahanda's struggles while her mother is gone!

11) One night Esther needs help, why?

12) Discuss the tragic incident involving Iris!

Part 4

13) How is Chanda "welcomed" by her relatives in Tiro?

14) How does Mrs. Tafa change in the end? What might be the reason for that?

2) Esther is Chanda's best friend. Over the course of the novel, we learn that she turns to prostitution in order to earn enough money to bring her family to Bonang. She is described as stubborn and independent. She understands that her choices may not always be the right choices but concedes that she is will to do whatever is right for her.
