Call of the Wild

Why does London use dogs to convey "survival of the fittest" instead of using humans?

In Call of the Wild, an important theme is that only the fittest can survive. Why does London use dogs to convey this message instead of humans?

In my opinion, London is speaking to "instinct", something more easily found and drawn upon by dogs than human beings. London would consider human beings to be soft..... unable to survive in countless circumstances because we are used to having things done for us.... rather than doing them ourselves.
