Where was Buck born?

I don't think the novel tells us where Buck was concieved and born. When we are introduced to him he is living the good life in Santa Clara California. He lives on a ranch with his beloved master who seems to have loads of money. London's point is that Buck needs to follow his destiny by hunting free in the middle of nowhere north of everywhere!
