What is symbolized when John Thornton frees Buck from the Traces?

 What evidence supports it?

John Thornton cuts Buck free from his traces (straps that keep Buck in place). There is heavy symbolism here. John Thornton is freeing Buck not only from his bindings but also from a life of human servitude. Buck becomes Johns partner rather than slave. Buck begins to feel his calling to the wilderness and his primal doggy longings.
