What happened to the team after Buck " stood up " to Spitz ?

After Buck stands up to Spitz kills him, Sol-leks is made the lead dog. Buck has, however, defeated the alpha dog and will not be undervalued again. Buck challenges Sol-leks too so the men, not wanting another dog dead, give Buck lead dog position. Buck brings a new sense of discipline and energy to the team.
