Why didn't Buck get up when it was time to leave Thorton's camp? What was the Hal's response? What was Thorton's response? How did Buck's behavior save his lfe?

Thornton saves Buck from Hal. Thornton threatens to kill Hal if he strikes Buck with his club. Buck refuses to leave Thornton's camp. I don't think Hal survives falling into the frozen water.
