why does London compare a spark of life repeatedly.Why?Is it effective?what other ocnnections can you dreaw between his mention of sparks in chapter five to previous chapters in the novel?

The "sparks" of life symbolize Buck's desire to survive and live. When he is kidnapped, beaten, made to be submissive..... emotionally and physically abused, the spark dims and flutters. Buck's desire to survive and live essentially form the spark.... the motivation..... to live.
