What is the author's purpose in using irony?

Huxley's purpose for using irony is the ability to infuse his work with some good old-fashioned sarcasm. We think of mothers and fathers as endearing, loving people.... parents in A Brave New World are seen in a negative, often dirty context. The beauty of life is denigrated into a scientific procedure...... something we consider a miracle is nothing more than a mixture in a test tube.
