What does it mean to be free to Bernard? Lenina?

 Bernard would like to feel life. He does not want to be sedated with narcotics. He wants to feel pain, passion, longing....in the natural sense. He wants to live deliberately instead of superficially. Lenina wants to become more entrenched into the artificial society of the state.
