Noah is trying to love his mother even though she seems to be inviting her husband to abuse her. I think Trevor has to be creative like thinking in her shoes: perhaps even thinking in Abel's shoes. Creativity is needed to understand people and situations. Trevor strives to understand the reasons why good people do bad things. He struggles love the people even though he doesn't like the choices they make.
