Blue Jasmine Imagery

Blue Jasmine Imagery

Plane

The film opens by taking readers inside an airplane to watch a woman called Jasmine. The lady is dressed in an expensive white Chanel suit, wearing jewelry, and generally looking wealthy. Jasmine's self-portrayal in the plane is an example of imagery used by the author to depict a sense of self. The people meeting Jasmine for the first time will think she is very wealthy and expensive. On the contrary, Jasmine is a broke socialite who just lost her sponsor; she is now arriving in San Francisco to live with her sister as she looks for the next potential sponsor.

Restaurant

When Ginger with her husband Augie visits Jasmine and her husband, Hal, in New York, they spend a night at a restaurant away from Jasmine's home. In the morning, Jasmine checks on her sister in the restaurant. The viewers learn that Hal does not like having visitors in his home; instead, he pays for their accommodation in a hotel. While Jasmine is leaving the restaurant accompanied by her sister, Ginger sees Hal coming out from another hotel with another woman walking while holding hands and kissing. In this scene, Ginger proves that Hal is cheating on her sister.

Breakup

The last vital imagery in the film is revealed towards the end when Dwight breaks up with Jasmine. Jasmine's hopes of marrying Dwight are halted when Augie shows up and reveals to Dwight that Jasmine is a socialite and a scammer who, together with her late fraudulent husband, robbed him of his $200,000 in their shady deals. The viewers see Jasmine walking away, lonely, from Ginger's apartment in her Channel suit, disheartened. She sits at the park bench alone, talking to herself, reflecting on how she lost the jackpot of marrying a rich man like Dwight, who had already accepted to marry her.
