What does antonio learn for the first time about his brothers?

Previously Antonio has learned that his brothers are suffering from what his parents call "war sickness" and they simply lie around all day drinking and doing little. At the end of the winter, they want to move on and become independent, so in Chapter 9, Antonio sees his brothers Leon and Eugene leave the family. His brother, Andrew, stays behind.
