Why did Richard write his first story?

Richard writes out of isolation and an inability to express his real feelings to people. Richard does not want to be labeled and is happy when his words confuse others.

Richard Wright wrote this story to inform people of his early and harsh childhood to his famous and respected future. When he was young, he was a pauper who was beaten up by a street gang for his skin color.
