Between the World and Me

Why do you write the book in the form of a letter ?

writing a book in the form of a letter allowed him to address his son directly as well as the reader as he uses pronoun "you"

But why didn't he just didn't dedicated the book to his son ?

I think the author wanted a more direct approach to both the reader and his son.
