Where was the code of comitatus honored and where was it broken?

Comitatus is most often honored when Beowulf's men go into Heorot and defend it against Grendel. They are willing to work in a group and go "to bat" for their leader. When Beowulf also fights the dragon, his "sidekick" Wiglaf definitely shows his loyalty. When Hrothgar closes Heorot for a time because of Grendel's attacks, the group is broken and all the warriors leave their leader.
