What incident leads the dragon on the path to vengeance?

The dragon is just really angry that one of Beowulf's servants took a goblet from his treasure. It was just a small goblet but apparently dragons notice these things. The dragon attacks the Geats, scorching everything and everybody he can. Beowulf, now old and wrinkly, goes with eleven men (ten of them pretty much useless) to fight the dragon.
