Conquest, glory, and death are all interrelated. Beowulf is an epic poem rooted in Viking lore. A true hero rises to the occasion and is fearless doing so. If he lives, he gets the alpha-male status that has all kinds of benefits. This is what Beowulf was all about. His alpha status combined with his warlike exploits become the stuff of myth that never dies.
