Do you believe evil has a physical form, or that it is a creation man's mind?? Explain

In the context of Beowulf I suppose Grendel and his mother embody evil. In our contemporary society, your question is much more personal. What do you think? Consider that man has always inflicted atrocities on each other. Is man inherently evil or is he simply part of a flawed social system?
