Why does Unferth lend Hrunting to Beowulf? How does Beowulf’s acceptance of this gesture reveal his personal character?

I think Unferth is being both clever and generous by lending his sword to Beowulf. This shows that Unferth can rise above his jealousy of Beowulf as well as wish Beowulf success for the sake of the Geats.
