The animation style of Beowulf (2007) was 3D motion capture which was similar to Zack Snyder's 300 was released in 2007 as well. I suppose it depends on your taste and tolerance for this type of animation. I personally found it distracting. The movie itself lacked any sort of depth that the poem had. I think the story and the animation was made for a larger audience who probably had not read Beowulf before. The CGI provided spectacle rather than substance. That's my take on it.
