Why do you think Morrison gives us the information little bit by little bit?

I'm working with an etext, but if you look at the novel as a whole, it's easy to understand that Morrison spoon feeds us information because there's far too much to take in all at once. The experiences of the characters in this novel are so difficult for us to envision and so often horffic to contemplate, that I myself, might never have finished it in its entirety.
