Miss Hopley's actions in paragraphs 7 and 8 helped Ernesto decide whether the principal was a possible "friend or menace". "She had a warm welcome in her eyes" and a "wholeheartedly smile." "She had a sparkle in her eyes" and "friendliness in her voice." "She also had firm shoulders", very tall, "straight sharp nose", "full cheeks", and "thin lips". He decided to like her because she did things that made her seem very nice.
