Away Background

Written by Australian Michael Gow, Away is a very famous and well-received play. The Griffin Theatre Company was the first place to stage the play, acting out the story of three families that each have their own problems. The play deeply stresses the need of each of these families to solve the problems by the holidays, since each of the problems would require a miracle to be fixed.

Michael Gow was born in Australia, fueling his setting for the play, Away. In fact, Away is his best known work, and has come to be an Australian classic as one of the most widely produced plays in the country's history. Since Away, Gow has written 12 other plays and has served as a director at the Queensland Theatre Company.

People love the storyline of Away because of its accessible storyline and of the way the characters handle their problems. The play has indeed become a classic and has been quite influential on other Australian stage works.
