What is the relationship between Turner and the corporals?
At the beginning of the chapter, the three have a somewhat tentative relationship. Turner is of lower military rank, but he's more well-spoken and good at making decisions, and so Mace and Nettle have decided to trust him for the time being. Turner is waiting for the time he can slip away from them. However, the difficulties they endure on the road bring them closer together, and by the end of their journey Turner comfortably trusts Nettle with his life.
