Sergius' charge was said to be boisterous and clumsy, he yelled, " "like an operatic tenor . . . shouting his war-cry and charging like Don Quixote at the windmills." His own men were laughing at him and believed him to be mad, "Of all the fools let loose on a field of battle, that man must be the very maddest."
