In order to decipher this problem, he moves to the origins of poetry as an art form. Poetry emerges, according to Aristotle, out of the characters of those who write it. Thus, he defines three types of people. “They are either better than we are, or worse, or such [as we are]” (89). Each type of person is responsible for the production of a different kind of poetry.
