How are the comic interruption related to the main plot?

This question is about the play by Christopher Marlowe called Dr.Faustus.

The fact that Faust uses and abuses all his powers instead of gaining knowledge and helping people is related to his eventual damnation. Faust acts like a sophomoric buffoon, providing the comedy, that really plays into the reader's lack of sympathy for him when Faust has to pay his due.
