I vividly remember my sixth-grade self sprawled out on my kitchen floor attempting to separate the misplaced recyclables in our trash can. I knew little of climate change or the nitrogen cycle at the time but was fascinated by the outdoors. Even at age 12, I wanted to be a part of preserving the world.

Fast-forward six years and my enchantment with the outdoors has grown exponentially. Today, the child who liked separating the misplaced recyclables became the young adult who actively composts, who volunteers to help with trail maintenance and water quality testing for the James River Park System, who does river clean-ups with Earth Society and leads field trips to sustainable farms. I grew up with an intense sense of duty to the natural world. An unsatisfiable urge to constantly study and engage in pressing issues relating to the environment that our society faces.

This intrinsic urge has led me to pursue my passions in an academic setting. Through environmental documentaries, AP Environmental Science, and guest speakers at nearby colleges, I constantly seek opportunities to learn more.
