She loves her son deeply. The speaker loves that her child is curious and not afraid to test the boundaries of the world around him, "It is that he has never been afraid. Rather, he reaches out and lo the chair falls with a beautiful crash..." She loves her child enough to let him experience failure so he can savour success, "Not that success, for him, is sure, infallible. But never has he been afraid to reach."
