If you are referring to Elizabeth's being crowned after Mary, a good place to begin answering this question is with her Protestant sensibility. After the terrible violence of "Bloody Mary," the people were in desperate need of someone who could provide a way forward for those who were now separated from the Catholic Church. Elizabeth seemed to be that way.
