40 C. A Celebration of Grandfathers by Rudolfo A. Anaya

40. C. Author's purpose refers to a writer's main reason for writing. Writers of nonficition usually write for one or more of the following purposes: to inform; to express ideas, opinions, and feelings; to analyze; to persuade; or to entertain. When reading Anaya's memoir, determine his purpose by looking for facts about people or places, his comments about these facts, explanations of how a subject works or is defined, statements that try to convince you of something, and passages that you find particularly enjoyable. PLEASE RECORD STATEMENTS FROM THE ESSAY THAT YOU THINK INDICATE ANAYA'S PURPOSE(S) FOR WRITING.

Can you please redo this question, I feel that I must of written it incorrectly....

The answers I need is for you to give me Four statements and the purpose after each statement. ( I need at least four) Thank once again. Sorry for the inconvenience. Greta

I think that's what we did....... I need to go back and look at it again. Be back soon! :-D

Ok, I would really appreciate your checking again. Maybe I just don't understand what the statement is and the purpose of the statement. Can you please explain example on the first one that you wrote(what is the statement and and what is the purpose after the statement) Thanks, Greta

Anaya's main purpose for writing is to inform. He is informing the reader about the importance of cultural heritage.

"Buenos Dias le de Dios, abuelo.” God give you a good day, grandfather. This is how I was taught as a child to greet my grandfather, or any grown person. It was a greeting of respect, a cultural value to be passed on from generation to generation, this respect for the old ones.

The old people I remember from my childhood were strong in their beliefs, and as we lived daily with them we learned a wise path if life to follow. They had something important to share with the young, and when they spoke the young listened. These old abuelos and abuelitas had worked the earth all their lives, and so they knew the value of nurturing, they knew the sensitivity of the earth. The daily struggle called for cooperation, and so every person contributed to the social fabric, and each person was respected for his contribution."
