I believe you mean loom.... from the text:

The hours of Violet's days were so filled with helping Amos that she had little time to give to her loom. Amos had erected it for her and it took up a good part of the space in the single room of their cabin. Violet, passing it during the day, would stroke it lovingly, thinking of the comfort and beauty its fruits would someday bring to their small abode.
