All the Pretty Horses

Why does John Grady "turn a blind eye" to Jimmy Blevins?

From the moment Blevins shows up it is evident that he is an immature liar and not to be trusted. Yet John Grady practically defends him throughout the entire story. With so much at stake (job, relationships, freedom) his playing the 'nice guy' with regard to Blevins just doesn't make sense.

I think the two have a father-son type of relationship. There is a sense of tacit un-condition on the part of Grady to their relationship.
