Paul had a difficult time relating his family when he was sent home to recuperate. His mother was ill, and he didn't want to burden her with the things he had experienced. Paul wanted a break from the war, and his father.... proud of him, wanted him to wear his uniform. His father also wanted to ask a lot of questions..... questions that Paul didn't want to answer. Paul felt isolated and out of place..... he could no longer see himself within his home but only as a soldier.
