All Quiet on the Western Front- Book Question

Throughout the story being told, I am a bit confused of what age is the narrator? Is Paul, the narrator, 20 years old but telling the story of when he was younger? Or is he telling the story in present tense? And if so, how old is he? I am confused.

This story is written in present tense so Paul is the narrator writing in the moment. Sometimes Paul goes into flashback but returns to the present.
