Larry was a pilot, but he had never flown a (P-40 fighter). He was inexperienced with the aircraft.

By this quote, said by Keller (I think) and it meant to reflect the theme of the play which is connected to social responsibility that she be above individual responsibility - Keller claims that Larry couldn't have possibly died with his plane because of defective cylinder head, because he never flew a P-40, and the cylinder heads, you remember, killed P-40 pilots only. It is meant then, that to Keller - if he hasn't hurt his own son - then he is fine with himself and with society. But this is wrong.
