Why did Agamemnon walk on the red carpet?

Is Agamemnon humble because he didn't want to compare himself with the gods by walking on it? Or is he hubristic because he walked on it?

The act itself is an act of hubris, in which his action denotes his opwn acceptance that HE had won the war. This act of arrogance caused the gods to abandon him and would be the direct cause of his own death.
