Principal Jenkins is aware of Meg's father's disappearance because of gossip and such. As principal, Mr. Jenkins wants Meg to apply herself to her studies, which she has been neglecting. Her attitude, however, doesn't endear her to him, and he coldly voices his opinion that her father isn't coming back.
