what causes sylvia to withhold information

Sylvia goes out with the hunter to find the Heron. They do not find it. Early the next morning Sylvia spots the nest but Sylvia is so affected by her tree-top observation of the heron and other wildlife that she cannot bring herself to disclose the heron's location to the hunter despite the money that the hunter might give her.
