At the start of the story, we learn that Sylvia has moved to her grandmother's farm from the town. She is enjoying the peace of the countryside, and she doesn't miss the busy town life. When we first meet Sylvia, she is returning home with her cow and enjoying the peace of her surroundings when she hears a whistle.
