A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings

Why do you think the people in the village are so fascinated with him at first and later lose interest? What does this say about humans and their view on religion?

The people are fascinated because the old man is an oddity..... something they are unable to understand, but something that makes them curious enough to gawk, prod, and scrutinize him. The old man is tested, harrassed, and caged. His status as an "angel" repeatedly tested and debated. They lose interest when they get bored with the games, when others, like Spider-Girl, pique their interest.

I'm not sure what you mean in terms of people's views on religion.... many people require miracles in their quest to "believe", others use religion when it suits them. On the other hand, there are many people from numerous faiths, who need no proof for their faith.
