The priest tested the man by speaking to him in Latin, the language of God, and by looking for a navel or a miracle. He cannot speak Latin and doesn't understand the Father, therefore he fails the first test. The second is to perform a miracle. He fails this also.

The angel's botched miracles;

1) The blind man didn't recover his sight, but he did grow three new teeth.

2) The paralytic didn't walk, but he did almost win the lottery.

3) The leper's sores sprouted sunflowers.

4) The church wanted Gonzaga to determine how many times the old man could fit on the head of a pin.
