What is the undertone of A Streetcar Named Desire?

There are a number of undertones to this play. One undertone involves desperation. Every character is desperate in their own way. Stella is desperate to make her marriage work, Stanley is desperate for control, Blanche is desperate for male attention and a sense of belonging.
