Why doesn’t finny believe Gene’s confession? Call him?

I think Finny is in denial. Beyond the latent homoerotic connotations between the two, Finny desperately wants things to be as they had once been. Finny's identity is wrapped up in Gene. An acceptance of Gene's guilt would change the relationship dynamic that Finny so desperately clings to.
