why does finny run from the room at the end of the chapter?

Gene stopped fighting for his innocence. Gene and Finny had been both fighting to cover up the truth but after Leper's accusation Gene gives up. With the truth out, Finny feels alone and in a panic: his relationship with Gene is forever changed.
